What are retreaded tyres?
- Retreading means that the worn tread is removed and replaced by a new one.
- The intact casing (tyre body) is re-used.
- Tread and casing are firmly attached to each other by vulcanization.
- Mileage and quality of retreaded lorry tyres are comparable to new tyres, partially even better.
In the commercial vehicles sector, almost every second tyre is retreaded. This ratio is much lower for car tyres and almost exclusively limited to winter tyres.
Safety with retreaded tyres:Retreading starts with an inspection of the casings (tyre bodies) by means of state-of-the-art technologies. Only flawless casings will be subjected to the retread process.
Two reasons for retreaded tyres: - Price: Compared to new brand tyres, the price of retreaded tyres is between 30% and 45% lower, depending on the dimensions.
- Environment: Re-use of the casing reduces energy and raw material consumption by up to 70%.
